8th International Competition for Young Guitarists
«Andrés Segovia» in Velbert from 18th to 21st June 2014
at the airport
After you have taken your luggage from the belt and passed through the customs, you leave the passenger area.
You follow the signs showing "S 11" till you reach the train station "Terminal":
You need not hurry, trains go every 10 to 20 minutes
On the platform you find such a ticket machine:
OPERATION INSTRUCTIONS for the ticket machine
BEFORE you get on the train you need to have your tickets stamped.
In order to do this you plunge your ticket into the slot of such a machine:
You need to stamp each ticket only once,
this stamp is also valid after changing trains.
Going to Velbert you need to change trains two times.
Trip No. 1
You take the train line S 11 direction: BERGISCH GLADBACH

at the 2nd stop (after 6 minutes) you get off the train:
at the station DÜSSELDORF-DERENDORF
Trip No. 2 this is not possible
This "trip no 2" ist not possible at present, because a thunderstorm has blocked the train line S 6. You can try to reach Ratingen Ost by taxi or bus, and then continue with "trip 3" described below.
You stay on the same platform and
you take the train line S 6 (rail no. 2) direction: ESSEN

at the 3rd stop (after 9 minutes) you get off the train
at the station RATINGEN-OST
Now you must leave the train station to get on a bus.
You do not take the first steps which lead down from the platform,
instead you continue walking some more meters and go down the second stairs,
at the bottom you turn LEFT and after climbing the next steps up again
you see the bus station to Velbert in front of you.
Trip No. 3
You take the bus line 771
direction: VELBERT-CHRISTUSKIRCHE

At the 25th stop after 38 minutes you get off the bus at the stop VELBERT-POSTAMT
It could be difficult to count those 25 stops,
especially because the buses do not stop in case nobody wants to get off or on.
Immediately before you reach your destination the street leads down into a steep valley
at the bottom of which there is the second last stop named
"Günther-Weisenborn-Straße".
Shortly after the next traffic lights you reach the destination stop "Postamt" (this stop has
been provisionally shifted because of street construction works). From there you see the yellow
post sign at the wall of a building across the steet.
in Velbert
From the bus stop you continue on foot ...
A ... to the Forum Niederberg
You go on walking into the same direction like your arriving bus, you cross two
traffic lights, you cross the pedestrian area, follow the "Kolpingstraße"
straight on, and after some further meters see on your right hand side
(opposite the church) a big square named "Europaplatz",
where the Forum Niederberg is situated.
B ... to the Youth Hostel (Jugendgästehaus)
You proceed into the same direction like the arriving bus to the traffic lights,
turn left into the "Friedrich-Ebert-Straße", and follow that street
for ca. 1 kilometre (15 min). After you passed under a bridge you take the second street
to your left "Am Buschberg". This street makes a bend to the right after ca. 150 m.
You do not follow that bend but go straight on to the Youth Hostel.
Departure
Going back home you do not start at the same bus stop where you arrived.
The bus stop "Postamt" of Line 771 in the opposite direction is situated some
metres further away:
From the provisional bus stop where you arrived you proceed to the traffic lights, turn left into
the "Friedrich-Ebert-Straße", you pass another provisional bus stop, cross the
"Kaiserstraße", and right there you see the bus stop of line 771 going back to Ratingen.
On all these provisional bus stops you will not see any ticket machine. You will have to buy
your tickets at the bus drivers. Don't forget to have the just bought tickets stamped
at the machine in the bus.
SAFE TRAVELS !!
