The allotted performance times of the candidates will not be published before hand.
These times will only be available during check-in after 15 h on Wesnesday 18th June.
They will be printed out in the competition booklet which will be handed out at the information desk. The competition performances are public and no entrance fee will be charged.

Evidently the guitar is the most popular and most frequently played instrument worldwide. After the 500 year course of the guitar influencing many generations and social sections of the people we have a vast variety of historical and contemporary guitar music at our disposal, which is supported by highly professional instruction. Correspondingly the International Competition for Young Guitarists «Andrés Segovia» contributes significantly to the promotion of promising young talents in offering them the opportunity to compare and exchange in conjunction with informed advice by a jury consisting of internationally renowned guitar experts.

Sponsored by potent companies, such as RWE and Sparkasse, and with consistant success, the Town of Velbert has been organizing this competition since 2000 every two years in cooperation with the German section of the European Guitar Teachers Association (EGTA). Ever since each time on the 80 children and youths who are dedicated to the guitar travel from about 20 countries to Velbert as winning a prize in the «Andrés Segovia» Competition has proved to be an important step in the carreer of a professional guitar artist.

The competition is held in 3 age groups. The performance of each candidate must contain a compulsory piece. Five prizes are provided for each age group, ranging from 125 to 1000 €, plus several valuable token prizes.
